was doing some research on The Fall of Ixion by Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem (what a ridiculous name) just now in conjunction with a print in a series of the same title by Hendrick Goltzius — whereupon I came across this exquisite painting by Jules-Élle Delaunay (1828-1891) and I couldn’t look away. it’s what I imagine Bernini’s Laocoon and His Sons merged with Henri Fuseli’s The Nightmare would look like; and then have Caravaggio paint it. so yummy.
art history, I love you.
